Senior Manager - Search Engine Marketing

SmartStop® Self Storage is looking for an experienced, innovative digital marketing professional to lead our search engine marketing efforts. This high visibility, high impact position will be responsible for managing and executing our upper funnel activities. A successful candidate will have a few years of experience in demand generation, paid search, and search engine optimization. Essentially, this candidate owns the top of the funnel for customer acquisition.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage paid search marketing campaigns and day-to-day activities including:
    • Lead advanced search strategy development across major search engines
    • Build and tweak campaigns as needed depending on the season and needs of the business
    • Define KPIs and reports to track results and optimize spend
    • Analyze, review and report on the effectiveness of paid search efforts to team
  • Play a key role in establishing and evangelizing paid search best practices, guidelines and objectives for paid search campaigns
  • Partner and liaison with outside vendors to assist in accomplishing strategic acquisition objectives in SEO and paid search
  • Drive SEO placement enhancing initiatives including driving backlinks, generating citations, ensure multi-data source accuracy of all listing locations, and publishing high-quality content for all locations
  • Work with broader marketing and pricing teams to establish and execute on content calendars, assets, media plans and copy for all paid media campaigns
  • Identify new and emerging technologies or approaches in digital marketing and drive testing of new methodologies and platforms as appropriate
  • Ensure the budgeted money is spent and make a case for when more spend is needed with supporting details
  • Monitor trends in paid search tools, channels, strategies incorporating effective and promising ideas into overall search engine marketing approach
  • Monitor SEO trends, investigate irregularities in performance and provide regular communication to internal stakeholders on SEO performance



Candidate Characteristics and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-5 years paid search and SEO experience preferably with multi-location business
  • Experience in strategic planning and executing to bring plans to implementation
  • Proven track record in operating with a high level of energy, commitment, and enthusiasm to take on a challenging role with cross-functional commitments
  • Budgetary experience including the ability to track spend against commitments
  • Expert at Excel; proficiency with other MS Office products
  • Expert ability with native paid search management tools like AdWords Editor
  • Experience with bid management platforms preferred (IE: Kenshoo, Marin, etc)
  • Knowledge of tracking methodologies (tag management, pixels, etc), HTML, JavaScript
  • Knowledge of search engine algorithms, best practices, trends and industry developments in SEO
  • BS Degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent experience
